  • Email account
  • Internet connection
  1. Step 1

    When you get an email from a bank, paypal, ebay or other related financial instution, look at the from and to email address. If it does not match your email address then you should discard it.

  2. Step 2

    Some email provider verify sender id such as hotmail, yahoo. Make sure you look into this.

  3. Step 3

    When you hover over the link, look at the status bar and make sure the link actually go to the link shown in the email.

  4. Step 4

    For more advanced, check for the email header and IP address and do a trace route to find the source of the email, if it came from African country then most likely it's not a legit email

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice often, after few emails, you will easily spot phishing email
  • Look at the sentence of email carefully, some of them are not written in proper English
  • Some phishing email may lead you to website that have virus in it, so you need to be very careful
  • Some email maybe legit but the sender id may not be able to verified, like paypal where it sends under the buyer's email credential but actually from service@paypal.com
