When you get an email from a bank, paypal, ebay or other related financial instution, look at the from and to email address. If it does not match your email address then you should discard it.

Some email provider verify sender id such as hotmail, yahoo. Make sure you look into this.

When you hover over the link, look at the status bar and make sure the link actually go to the link shown in the email.

For more advanced, check for the email header and IP address and do a trace route to find the source of the email, if it came from African country then most likely it's not a legit email
Tips & Warnings
Practice often, after few emails, you will easily spot phishing email
Look at the sentence of email carefully, some of them are not written in proper English
Some phishing email may lead you to website that have virus in it, so you need to be very careful
Some email maybe legit but the sender id may not be able to verified, like paypal where it sends under the buyer's email credential but actually from service@paypal.com
