Beat the I-405/I-167 Commute

If you live in Washington you have undoubtedly at one point in time had to deal with the traffic nightmare that is Interstate 405 and Interstate 167. For those of us who do this commute daily it can be a grind like no other. If you are not fortunate enough to have a carpool partner then this might help speed up your commute.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Approx 45 minutes
  • Car
  • Patience
  1. Step 1

Take Interstate 90E to 17th ave nw. Take a right off of that exit. Turns into Redmond/Issaquah rd se.

  2. Step 2

Follow Redmond/Issaquah rd se to 164th Ave se. Turn left at the light. Follow 164th ave se until it ends. Take a right onto SE 128th St. Take a left at the next light 156th Ave SE.

  3. Step 3

Follow 156th Ave SE to SE Renton Maple Vally Freeway Rd and take a left. Turn right onto 140th Way SE. Follow 140th Way SE straight thru to Highway 18 in Auburn. This will get you past all of 405 and 167 and put you just east of the Auburn Supermall.

Tips & Warnings
  • During the school year buses might slow the commute some but nothing like the parking lot known as 405.
  • This is a regular road and is policed regularly. So avoid the urge to speed.

on 10/13/2006 Sounds a lot like the 405/10 interchange in Los Angeles. It's always good to stay off any road named 405.

on 10/12/2006 This is a great tip, now can you find me a way to get from Bellevue to Renton airport during rush hour, by avoiding 405?
