An ambush is when an individual or group is taken by surprise by a high volume of fire usually initiated by an explosive device. Here are some tips to making it out alive.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Reflexes, 2 legs, adrenaline, some form of weapon preferably a gun with plenty of ammunition.
  1. Step 1

So you've made contact, either you've been hit with heavy fire or an explosion or sniper fire, sometimes all of the above. The first thing you will want to do is get away from the kill zone. The kill zone is the point at which the ambush was initiated and usually where the attackers have the strongest advantage of firepower and damage. Either by vehicle or your own two legs move away from the killzone and into and area of cover or simply distance your self from the kill zone.

  2. Step 2

If you are out of the kill zone or simply unable to move due to the high volume of fire and debris you will need to attempt to achieve fire superiority. Fire superiority means that you and your team need to locate where the concentration of fire is coming from and attempt to overwhelm the source with your own firepower. Start off by returning fire and spacing your team apart so that the attackers have to track more than one target area.
Get on the radio or cell phone and call somebody who can help, better to have too much support than none at all.

  3. Step 3

Using methods of fire and maneuver such as bounding overwatch or suppression fires advance an assault team towards the attackers position. This method is primarily useful i situations where the attackers have a machine gun emplacement or are firing from a solitary sheltered position. If you are in an urban environment avoid rushing away from your vehicles and down side streets where more attackers may be hiding and awaiting your pursuit of the ambushers. For the purposes of this wehow we're going to assume that the attack has taken place in a rural area with maybe a farm house or shack off to one side of the road where the ambushers are attacking from.

  4. Step 4

Attempt to overwhelm and destroy the ambushers or at least drive them back enough to where you and your team can consolidate and revaluate the situation. Now that the primary threat has been minimized you can begin sorting out the wounded and dead.

Tips & Warnings
  • Violent supremacy is the phrase of the day, your attackers will not stop until you are all dead or it becomes clear that it is not to their advantage to continue the attack. By assaulting into the ambushers you take away their sense of security and remove the advantage from their side.
  • Spread your team out as fast as possible, someone will need to take charge and begin moving every one in a direction or panic will set in and all is lost.
  • If you are in a convoy of vehicles try move them further away from the kill zone and utilize whatever mounted weapons systems you have to add to your suppression fire.
  • There may be more explosives rigged up to be used after the initial contact, usually moving off the road and into less predictable areas of traffic is a wise move as the secondary explosives are most likely rigged along the road side or near it.
  • When assaulting into the ambush try and utilize your ammunition wisely. What may seem like your attackers may be simply bait to get you to approach another kill zone with more attackers and interlocking sectors of fire.
  • You own the battle field, if you have fire coming from the front and off to your left there is a nice brick building with a roof perfect for cover and observation go ahead and kick that door in. Sure you might not be invited for dinner again but the loss of some potential new friends is worth the gain of improving your defensive position.
  • Keep low and move fast and unpredictably. There may be enemy sharpshooters set into over watch positions.
  • Do not stay in one place any longer than you can help it. Mortars and Rockets like things that don't move around alot.
  • When assaulting the enemy position be sure to observe your flanks as the attackers may have planned for this and others may be waiting for you to approach.
  • Vehicles are a favorite target, if you are standing next to one it only makes you a more appealing target.
  • Try and look unimportant, the enemy may be low on ammunition too.
  • You are not safe until you are FAR FAR away from the ambush site. Snipers love to wait until the important looking people start walking around the battle field gesturing orders and giving pep talks.
