Spritz cookies are a holiday favorite.

Spritz cookies are made with a very stiff dough pushed out through a press. You can use various shapes of cookie discs in the end of the press to create different shapes and sprinkle colored sugars over the tops of the cookies to add some extra-sweet flavoring. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 3 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 1/2 c. butter, softened
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2-tsp. almond extract
  • Cookie press
  • Cookie sheet
  • Colored sugar (optional)

Instructions

    • 1

      Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

      Beat the butter for 30 seconds. Add the sugar and beat the mixture until it is fluffy

    • 3

      Add the egg and vanilla and almond extracts to the mixture. Gradually add the baking powder and flour, beating until it is well blended

    • 4

      Force the dough through a cookie press onto an ungreased cookie sheet to make individual cookies.

      Sprinkle the cookies with colored crystal sugar or sprinkles for decoration, if desired.

      Bake the cookies at 400 degrees for 7 to 8 minutes. Let them cool on a wire rack.
