How to Clean your Pewter

Pewter is a metal alloy, comprised of varying amounts of tin, copper, and antimony.
Pewter is often confused with silver due to its luster. Unlike silver however, pewter does not require hours of polishing. It will maintain its shine throughout the years with simple care.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Prepare the mixture by adding a pinch of salt to 1 cup of white vinegar.

  2. Step 2

    Next, add flour the the salt and vinegar mixture until a paste forms.

  3. Step 3

    Cover your pewter in the vinegar, salt, and flour paste and let stand for 15 minutes.

  4. Step 4

    Rinse the pewter with warm water and dry with a soft cloth.

Tips & Warnings
  • Clean your pewter at least twice a year.
  • Rinse your pewter immediately after serving anything acidic, such as citrus juice or salad dressing. This will prevent pewter from spotting.
  • Do not put pewter in the dishwasher or the microwave.
