How to tell if someone committed plagiarism

I recently had an incident that caused me to question whether someone wrote a document so I decided to investigate the authenticity of the document. Below if how I caught a plagiarist.

      There are several programs out there such as Turnitin, iThenticate and plagiarism.org that can test the authenticity of a document. But these services charge, thre are other ways that you can detect a plagiarist

      If you know the person that wrote the article you can compare their vocabulary and how they present ideas in normal speech with the paper. Any distinct differences should be investigated.

      You can also take a section of the paper (about 3 lines) and input it into google and see if anything comes up. Google with then compare the lines to millions of webpages and display the results.

      If you see a google entry containing similiar language select that google entry and compare the website to the paper.
