How to Perform the Heimlich maneuver on a cat or small dog

Keep these steps handy if your small pet starts choking.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

1. Hold your pet's back against your stomach, with her head up and feet hanging down.
2. Put your fist under the rib cage. Feel for that hollow place just under the ribs.
3. Push inward and upward at the same time in a strong thrusting action.
4. Repeat two to three times, then check for the object in your pet's mouth.
