Travelling to the Netherlands? Most people speak English quite well, but you'll certainly amuse them if you speak a little Dutch!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yourself
  1. Step 1

The first thing you'll want to say to someone is 'Hi'. This one is easy.

  2. Step 2

Say 'Hoi' as in 'hoy' that rhymes with boy. Put a little extra emphasis on the Y. Alternatively you can say 'Hallo' for a bit more formality

  3. Step 3

Now how about, 'How's it going?'

  4. Step 4

Say 'Hoe gaat het? Pronounced 'who ggghhaat het'. The 'g' in Dutch is pronounced kind of like the sound you make when clearing your throat.

  5. Step 5

    Finally, say goodbye

  6. Step 6

    Say, 'Doei!' Pronounced, 'do-we'
