Step 1
Switch on the TV and press the Guide button on the remote. Instead of Guide, certain remotes have the Menu button.
-
Step 2
A guide appears on the screen. This on-screen guide, in addition to helping consumers make lists of favorite programs, enables restricting channels from kids and shows error messages in the event of certain problems.
-
Step 3
To group channels, access the on-screen guide and select the option which suggests favorite channels or something similar. Different receivers give different but similar options. The receiver's user manual gives precise information about this feature.
-
Step 4
The parental lock facility allows parents to limit the type of channels and programs kids view. Moreover, customers can define the amount of money kids can spend on pay-per-views and the total time for which they watch television. To set a parental lock, display the on-screen guide and select Parental >> Edit Settings. Next, select an option such as Limit, Spending or Ratings. Follow the subsequent steps and select Lock Now after which the system prompts you for a personal identification number (PIN). Viewers need to enter the correct PIN to watch a locked channel/program.
-
Step 5
The system may show certain messages on the screen. For example, if the access card is not used correctly or an invalid access card is inserted, the "Please insert a valid access card" message is displayed. To resolve this situation, either reset the receiver or call customer service at 1-800-531-5000. Resetting a receiver can be done by switching off the system, unplugging the receiver and waiting at least 15 seconds before plugging it back and turning the system on. Other messages may indicate problems with processing information on the access card, trouble with signal reaching the receiver, inability of the dish to catch the signal, non-inclusion of a channel in the subscription or improper signal processing. To fix any such problem, refer to the user manual for detailed information.
