Thinking of connecting your PC to a digital TV? Good idea. But to get your Web surfing, gaming and entertainment access on one screen, you need to get the appropriate devices first. In the following steps, we will help simplify the process of connecting a PC to your Digital TV.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Understand the need for a VGA to component transcoder. It converts a computer signal in the RGB/VGA format and redirects it to the Progressive Component input of your HDTV set.
Step2
Understand the two main brands of transcoders available in the market--Key Digital’s KD-VTCA3 and Audio Authority’s 9A60.
Step3
Key Digital’s KD-VTCA3, also known as ClearColor3 is the smallest in size when it comes to VGA to Component video adapters. If you have an HDTV RCA set-top box or personal computer, ClearColor3 enables you to connect them to your HDTV display. It works well with all formats–480p, 720p, 1080i/540p, NTSC, PAL, Interlaced and Progressive.
Step4
Audio Authority’s 9A60 converts VGA sources from VGA-only set-top boxes and PC signals to Component. It works well with 480p, 720p and 1080i formats. You can shop for it online (see Resources below).

Tips & Warnings

  • The transcoder will work only on an HD-ready set.
  • If your PC signal doesn’t match your HDTV resolution, your set can be damaged.
  • If your PC’s hardware can’t adjust to special resolutions, your screen image may go out of focus, a situation known as overscan. This will hamper your navigation.
