Instructions

    • 1

Isolate the hair that is tangled with gum by fastening a clip or rubber band around it. This will ensure that no other hair becomes ensnarled with the sticky substance.

    • 2

Rub a generous amount of olive oil into the gum and hair until everything is well-coated.

    • 3

Remove the gum from your child's hair by pulling pieces out. When the gum and hair is well-lubricated, pieces of the gum will gently pull out.

    • 4

Finish getting gum out of your child's hair by running a fine-toothed comb over the affected area to get out any residual pieces.

Tips & Warnings

  • After you have finished removing the gum, shampoo your child's hair to get out the olive oil.

  • Other common methods for removing gum from hair include rubbing peanut butter over it, freezing it with an ice cube and spreading Vaseline over the affected area.

  • Gum is a choking hazard for children under 5. If they see grown-ups chewing gum and want to chew as well, give them a frozen juice bar or other treat instead.
