How to Set Up Parental Lock with Dish Network Satellite TV

Dish Network satellite TV transmits all kinds of programs, some of which may not be appropriate for children. As a result, parents may not want their kids to watch such programs. In other instances, parents might want their kids to watch television only for a specific length of time. (THIS IS NOT ADDRESSED IN THE STEPS) Dish Network supports the parental lock mechanism to enable parents and guardians to restrict television viewing for the young. Selective programs and entire channels can be password-protected. Parental lock can also be set up based on ratings provided by the Motion Picture Association of America.

Instructions

Lock a specific channel

Step1
Switch on your television and press the Menu button on the remote. You may need to enter your password if the receiver is also locked. This password is set at the time of locking the receiver. If you do not remember this password call customer service to reset the password.
Step2
Select Channel Locks from the menu that will appear on the TV screen.
Step3
Observe the listing of all channels with a box next to it that is displayed. Checkmark the respective box to lock as many channels as you wish. Unmarking the checkmark will unlock the channel.

Locking adult programming delivered through Pay-Per-View

Step1
Switch on your television and press the Menu button on the remote. You may need to enter your password if the receiver is also locked. This password is set at the time of locking the receiver. If you do not remember this password call customer service to reset the password.
Step2
Select Lock PPV from the menu that will appear on the TV screen.
Step3
Select Lock System.

Hiding locked channels from the Electronic Program Guide

Step1
Switch on your television and press the Menu button on the remote. You may need to enter your password if the receiver is also locked. This password is set at the time of locking the receiver. If you do not remember this password call customer service to reset the password.
Step2
Select Locks > Hide Adult
Step3
Select Lock System. You will have to enter a password to hide the channels. Enter the password to set it and once again to confirm. This will hide the locked channels from Dish Network’s Electronic Program Guide.

Tips & Warnings

  • The system manual gives step-by-step information about parental locking.
  • Ensure that you keep the password safely. Without it you cannot set the parental lock or access locked channels.
