Trick or Treat With Your Kids Effectively

Halloween is every kid's favorite holiday, but trick or treating can be a stressful ordeal for parents unless you are well prepared. The goal is to get as much candy as you can in the least amount of time, while not getting the kids too tired.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Kids
  • Costume
  • Good pair of shoes
  • pillow case
  • A light but filling meal
  1. Step 1

Feed your kids. Make sure it is a protein-filled meal with light carbs. Your kids need energy but can't be weighed down.

  2. Step 2

Put on their costumes, but make sure they have tennis shoes on so they can move quickly and won't get tired. Elf shoes are a definite no-no.

  3. Step 3

Plan your route. Make sure you pick a well-lit neighborhood where the houses are close to each other and there are a lot of families. If not, you may find close proximity of homes, but many homes with the lights out -- the sign for "I got no candy, so don't come knocking!"

  4. Step 4

Give each of your kids a pillow case and make sure to carry a spare so in case they fill up you won't have to return home. Do not let them carry those shallow heavy pumpkins.

  5. Step 5

Get started right at dusk and GO GO GO!

Tips & Warnings
  • Move quickly and if there is a big pack of kids in front you, speed across the street and get ahead of them.
  • Skip houses with very long driveways.
  • Bring a water because the kids will get thirsty.
  • Bring a flashlight.

on 10/27/2008 Great ideas. I love the idea in step 1. Many people don't stop to think of that.

on 11/3/2006 Pillow cases work the best, I always used those as a kid when I went trick or treating.
