Locate a picture of the item via magazines or Internet. Tape the picture to the copy paper. Below the picture include a brief description, price and location of the item. For example: Item: Toxic Ranger Description: Transforms to 10 different rangers Price: $29.95 Location: Toys-R-Us
Step3
After the child has collected the data, have them rank the items from 1 to 10. 1 is the item they want most.
Step4
Now it’s time for the presentation. This is serious so have each child stand in front of the family to present. Give the speaker your complete attention. Hold all questions until the end of the presentation. Make sure you applaud at the completion of the presentation. You know what it’s like to speak in front of people!
Step5
Once the presentation is complete you keep the documents and don’t reveal which items they’ll receive. Surprise them with the gifts later!
Step6
You now have a complete and thorough shopping list which includes price and locations. It doesn’t get any easier than that!
Tips & Warnings
Added bonus you’re exposing your child to public speaking…it’s easier to speak in front of their classmates and strangers than family.

on 10/23/2006 Excellent Idea. My child is a teenager, but this strategy can work for all ages; even help prepare him for the workforce.
