How to Stop Throwing Gutter Balls

Rate: (2 Ratings)

Those of us who throw a "straight ball" know that it is not difficult to clean the gutters on a regular basis. This article will help to rectify that situation.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Stand in the middle of the lane and throw your first ball. Take note of which side of the headpin (first pin in the triangle) your ball ends up on.
Step2
Try to pick up the spare using your normal technique.
Step3
Based on which direction your first ball traveled move six inches toward the gutter your ball was heading. I know it seems strange to move closer to the gutter that your ball was heading but this will help straighten your armswing.
Step4
Again if you didn't throw a strike attempt to pick up your spare.
Step5
If your ball didn't make it to the pocket on your last attempt then you will need to do one of two things. If you went past the headpin move back 3 inches toward your original mark. If you didn't quite make it to the headpin move another six inches toward the same direction you have been moving.
Step6
Finally, once you have gotten close to the headpin it will just be a matter of fine tuning your approach and your mark.

Tips & Warnings

  • Patience is key
  • Practice 3 to 6 games a week
  • Try joining a summer league for starters
  • If you want better results look into a fingertip ball
  • Lessons are always good
  • Frustration will set in just remember your playing a game
  • Once you get this down and start to shoot higher scores you just might get addicted :-)
