It may be the end of Daylight Saving Time (aka Summer Time), but it’s not the end of the world. Our rule: anything that sounds like it could be turned into an excuse for a party should be, and this is no exception. We may be returning to Standard Time but a party celebrating the change will be anything but standard!

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Black card stock with silver lining, toy watches
  • Relaxing music
  • Food and Beverage (wine)
  • Candles, pillows

Step1
Send invitations: Use black card stock with a silver lining and a toy watch set to the new time. “We may be losing light in the evenings, but there is a silver lining.. an excuse for a party. Come commiserate with us over dinner and drinks at our place.” Include the date, time, location and RSVP info.
Step2
Create atmosphere: Go for a relaxed, cozy, loungy feel with tons of candles and pillows. The party is about adjusting to mingling after dark when we’ve been in summer mode for months.
Step3
Serve low-key food and beverages like red wine and a family-style rustic dinner (be sure to include mushrooms; they are grown in the dark).
Step4
Play some relaxing music in the background. Hopefully it will encourage slow dancing after dinner.
Step5
Ask guests to write down things they’ve done in the dark that would shock us. Then try to guess who did what.

Tips & Warnings

  • This party does not have to be thrown on the day we set the clocks back. It takes a while to adjust to the new time so throw it anytime within the first month of Standard Time.

on 10/5/2006 Good way to celebrate a tough time of the year. I hate when summer ends.
