Fall is a great time of year to host a dinner party. People are generally more available for parties after summer has ended. Hosting a dinner party is also a great way for you to showcase your entertaining ability.
Try to invite people that don't all know each other. A dinner party should provide an opportunity to meet new and interesting people.
Step2
Assign seats so that you break apart couples and close friends. This ensures that people get the opportunity to meat others and typically will liven up the conversation.
Step3
Give everyone a job, such as opening the wine, selecting the music, serving the first course, etc.
Step4
Have everyone introduce themselves to each other by telling the group something intersting about themselves, or something new that has happened to them.
Tips & Warnings
Prepare most of the food in advance. In fact, there is nothing wrong with buying pre-made food from a specialty store. This allows you to focus on the guests.
Make sure you know about your guests eating preferences. If you have vegetarians, provide an option for them.

One of my favorite fall dishes to make at a dinner party is a butternut squash and mushroom lasagna. It has always been a big hit with my dinner guests! If you click on my name, visit my profile and go to my articles, you'll find a How To on how to make it! If you do, let me know what you think!
