In the state of Oregon, it is against the law to pump your own gas. Oregonians want to know... how do you pump your own gas?

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • car, gas, tank, money
  1. Step 1

Go to your nearest fueling station and choose the gas pump that has the correct type of gas for your car.

  2. Step 2

You can check the price of the gas on either the sign above the station or on the gas pump. After selecting the type of payment you are ready to pump the gas.

  3. Step 3

Open the door to your gas tank, remove the nozel from the pump and insert into the tank. You may have to flip the switch up on the gas pump in order to start pumping. Squeeze the handle on the nozel. If you tire easily, you can use the "kick stand" for the nozel so you don't have to hold it while the tank is being filled.

  4. Step 4

The pump should automatically shut off once your tank is full. Remove the nozel and replace it back in the pump.

Tips & Warnings
  • If money is a concern, you can look for the lowest priced gas in your neighborhood. Gas stations closer to the freeway tend to have higher prices.
  • Never top off the tank.
  • Do not talk on cell phones while filling the tank. Watch for overflowing of gas.
