Things You'll Need:
- Computer
- Internet connection
- Credit card
- Bank account
-
Step 1
Determine the type of ring you want to buy. Has your girlfriend dropped any hints about the shape of stone or type of metal she’d like? If not, think about here style (clothes, furniture, etc.) and pick something that matches.
-
Step 2
Discover her ring size. You can ask her nonchalantly in conversation if you think you can get away with it. Otherwise, ask one of her friends or mother to see if they know. You also can take one of her rings that you know fits her finger and trace it. You might even want to find an opportunity to have her try on a ring at a street fair or something to get an idea.
-
Step 3
Research diamonds. Go online and search for diamond education. You want to understand the Four Cs: cut, color, clarity, and carat weight.
-
Step 4
Pick the size of the stone. Now that you have an understanding of diamonds, decide how big the ring needs to be to put a smile on her face.
-
Step 5
Go online and find the perfect ring. There are a lot of web sites for wedding rings. I suggest Blue Nile. They not only provide tons of information, but have a great selection.
-
Step 6
Purchase the ring. Once you find the perfect ring, buy it. Use a credit card or transfer money from a bank account.

on 12/28/2008 I recently proposed to my girlfriend of 5 years over the holidays. I spent what felt like countless hours doing research, asking her friends and family, and going back and forth on a few rings. Shopping online made my life so much easier. I found an amazing site http://www.engagementguide.com that not only provided information on choosing a diamond and metal/setting, but referenced credible and talented jewelers, one being the jeweler I chose. At first I was concerned about purchasing online, but it is actually a very safe and secure process. Best of all, there was no hassle with a salesperson and I got a great deal in comparison to what I found in a store.
One thing I overlooked at the beginning was the importance of the metal I chose for the ring. I chose platinum for all the obvious reasons ( it is more durable, rare, pure, precious, wears more beautifully than other metals

on 7/12/2007 In most cases when you want to ship a diamond engagement ring to your work address, you will have to add the address to your credit card as a temporarily approved address. This way your credit card company will recognize the address and approve your transaction. Most internet diamond companies will also require this. In many cases they will not ship to any destination other than your billing address. This is to prevent fraudulent transactions.
