How to Plan a Family Party

There are books and websites to provide instructions how to plan the perfect party. What are my useful tips? Parties can be for any occasions and the guest list small.

Things You’ll Need:

• Camera, camcorder, or both.

1. My family plans parties all year long, for birthdays, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Christmas. The only invited guests are the us!
2. Ask the guest of honor if they have any special requests, such as menu, gift, or party theme.
3. The remaining family members are the party planners. The planners are involved in all aspects of the event, planning the theme, menu, venue, and gifts. Mom or Dad is always available as the head planner. The only exception is our wedding anniversary and we only accept hand-made gifts from our kids; eliminates the ‘fear factor’.
4. After you’ve decided on a theme, try to recycle party decorations especially for the adults. Be careful with the kids, you don’t want to use the same decorations for Jimmy that Susie used earlier this year. Remember we’re creating their memories.
5. For birthdays don’t be cheap. Have a cake, gifts and decorations even for Mom and Dad. Everyone enjoys blowing out candles no matter how many there are!
6. Have a camera and camcorder to record all parties.
7. If the event occurs on a school or work day, the party has stages. In the morning, surprise the guest of honor with the decorations, cake, gifts and special breakfast. What better way to start the day. That evening the party continues with their special dinner and now it’s time to serve the cake. A nice compliment to the meal is their favorite movie or music.
