Houston's is a group of retaurants that graces a select number of cities (LA, NY, New Orleans, Phoenix, Kansas City, SF and more) across the gold old USA. The retaurant is owned by Hillstone Restaurant Group. Which owns a few other great restaurantes like Rutherford Grill in Napa Valley, CA and Bandera. Eating at Houston's is highly addictive. Don't start if you are prone to addiction.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A Houston's near you.
  • At least $50 do to it right
  • An healthy appetite at lunch or dinner time
  • 2-3 friends and/or family members
  • Room for dessert

Step1
Start Strong. Always leadoff with the famous Houston's Spinach Dip. You may have had spinach dip at another restaurant and there is a good change they tried to copy this recipe. It is served hot with salsa and sour cream on the side in individual containers. It is also served with hot tortilla chips. If you need more they bring them before you even ask. It is also good to order the Smoked Salmon which is sometimes not on the menu. Don't be afraid to go off menu!
Step2
Next step is the hardest. Do you have a big enough appetite to do an appetizer or salad? I do. Order the Ahi Tuna Salad which is sometimes not on the menu. If you have to share it with someone so you can at least taste it. It is seared Ahi tuna on top of mixed greens with a citrus vinagrette.
Step3
Now for the toughest part...the entree. There are way too many good things to order and way too many good sides. The combinations are endless. In order to do this right it is best to block out 2 days a week to go to Houston's for either lunch or dinner. It really helps to have a Houston's near you and some die hard "Houstonians" to travel with.
Step4
If this is your first time going to a Houston's you need to go with one of the meat dishes. Houston's is a steakhouse at heart. While they serve meat and vegetarian fare you don't want to go down that path on your first visit. Go meat or go home!
Step5
If you go during lunch you need to order the Cheeseburger or French Dip sandwich. The fries are skinny, crisp and hmmm good. For the ladies they have a great hacked chicken salad or you can do the Ahi salad as your main entree.
Step6
If you go during dinner you have issues. There are too many choices and side dish variables. You can't go wrong if you order one of the following dishes: 1) Filet Mignon, 2) Hawaiian Ribeye or 3) The Ribs.
Step7
Finally, you need to leave room for dessert. Houston's makes a mean Apple Walnut Cobbler. Thhis has proven to be elusive over the last few years so make sure you ask for it even if it is not on the menu. Some locations have it and some don't. Some may have it but it may not be on the menu so always ask!

Tips & Warnings

  • Always bring at least one friend with you to ull you away from the Spinach Dip if things get out of hand.
  • When ordering sides get the heirloom tomoatoes or the Artichoke or both. Extremely good.
  • Eating at Houston's is highly addictive.

on 10/1/2006 Hands down the best entree is the ribs, which is sometimes not listed on the menu. Don't be afraid to ask for it, it's one of their top sellers. Finish off your meal right with the Five Nut Brownie.

on 9/30/2006 How on earth could you forget the artichoke? Houston's has by far _the_ best artichokes. Don't know what it is about them, but they're mighty scrumptious.
