Think about the times you’ve done something nice for someone and you never received an acknowledgement. In fact if you weren’t there to present the gift you had to make contact to confirm they actually received it! Don’t make the same mistake.
These steps are easy to implement and provide the ‘warm feelings’ of appreciation you’d like to receive. Remember no one has to be nice to you so why not return the gesture with a simple ‘Thank-You’.
Step2
Acknowledge receipt via a phone call. Cell phone minutes are inexpensive and if you miss them leave a voice mail. If the party took the time to have a gift mailed or delivered to you, call the day of receipt. Don’t make them wait. Not hearing from you makes the person think it was lost and they don’t want to call ‘it spoils’ the surprise.
Step3
Send a card. You can purchase one or customize one if you happen to have the greeting cards software. The package includes paper, envelopes, and various card selections. It pays for itself immediately, great for birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
Step4
Send an email. It’s not about how fancy the note, it’s about telling the person you appreciate what they did for you.
Step5
Follow-up the note with your own act of kindness. If the gesture was a birthday, anniversary, or holiday mark your calendar to reciprocate.
Step6
Or just do something nice anytime! For a fellow co-worker an impromptu lunch invitation. For a neighbor pick up items at the store while you’re there. Why not volunteer to car-pool your kids’ friends for a day.

I just had a conversation with my sister about this yesterday. When I go out of my way to do something nice for someone and do not receive a simple thank you I feel like NOT helping them again. I always recognize gifts or help with a very sincere thank you. This article reminds us that saying thanks is super easy!
