How to Avoid a Hangover

One of the worst by-products of going out with your friends is the hang over (the things that you do when you are drunk are out of the scope of this article). In order to avoid this, which I would never personally suggest, don't drink. However; if you are going to drink, try to follow these simple rules and you will be less likely to get a hang over!

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Water
  • Vitamin B
  • A meal of some kind

Step1
Make sure that you eat something before you go out drinking. It doesn’t have to be a big meal but some kind of protein helps, I find chicken is the best but go with whatever sounds good to you.
Step2
Don’t mix alcohols! Yes it’s fun to go out and have beers with your friends and then have shots after you get all wasted. What isn’t fun are the little guys with big hammers the next morning trying to get out of your head.
Step3
I know it’s really hard but try to drink one 8oz glass of water for every alcoholic drink that you have. Despite what some people say you will get just as drunk. You just won’t hurt as much the next day!
Step4
Take vitamin B! It will help in so many ways you would be surprised. Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) calms your shaky nervous system, helps your weary body break down still-lurking alcohol, some Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) for your bloodshot eyes, some Vitamin B3 (Niacin) to break down the 3am pizza, some Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) for your cramping calves and some Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin) to get your blood pumping.
Step5
And always remember that any sleep you get while you are drunk you can’t count the first 2 hours at least to be actual sleep. That’s just you passed out. It’s usually not until you have woken up and stumbled to the bathroom first and then back to bed before you are truly sleeping!

Tips & Warnings

  • Please drink responsibly! Know your limits and never drink and drive.

on 9/10/2007 It really doesn't matter if you mix different alcohols. What matters is how much you drink in a given time. It also matter which type of drinks get you worse, it varies in people

on 8/3/2007 I find that if I sober up as much as possible before going to sleep I am much less likely to have a hangover. Of course, this is hard when you pass out. :)

Also, I highly recommend the energy drink Rock Star, both before you to go bed and after you get up. Rock Star has a lot of ingredients that not only help you stay hydrated, but repair your damaged liver as well.

on 9/11/2007 If you are thirsty when you start drinking alcohol you will drink it quicker, and probably drink more. That means you will be more drunk and will feel worse the next day. Before I start drinking I make sure I'm not thirsty by having a good drink of water.

on 5/9/2008 Oh, god I hate hangovers...cramping legs, sore head bad bad breath ick... My friend said to drink Gator Aid or some other sports drink to hydrate your poor body as well as eating something like eggs and toast, even if you have to choke it down :(
