Things You'll Need:
- Etiquette Book
- Tipping Guides
-
Step 1
First, get to know your newspaper delivery person if you can. You'll get your newspaper dry on rainy days and on the porch on windy days.
-
Step 2
If you subscribe to both the daily paper and the weekend edition, the delivery person gets a bigger tip.
-
Step 3
When you pay your monthly bill to the paper, you can add on the tip and specify its purpose.
-
Step 4
Around the big holidays, in general the five-day-a-weeker can expect between $15 and $20, and the weekender between $5 and $15. Both? A generous gift is $25.
-
Step 5
You can go out and meet the delivery person and present the envelope with a warm handshake. Or, again, you can add it to your bill.
-
Step 6
As an alternative, a card in an envelope can be hung on your front doorknob with a rubber band and "Newspaper Delivery Person" written clearly on the front. Many delivery folk toss the paper from a moving car, however, and won't notice the card.

on 11/25/2007 Before adding a tip to the carrier on your bill make sure the carrier will get it. The paper I work for has an area on the bill designated for carrier tip but the carriers won't get them.

on 11/27/2006 Sometimes playing the office is not the best idea. Many offices do not keep track of who is doing the tipping. They may simply include the tip in the delivery person's check. Many carriers send out self-addressed envelopes monthly to the clients. If you want your tip to be recognized by the carrier it is best to use the envelopes. Otherwise, they have no way of knowing who has tipped.

on 12/19/2005 Try not to leave a Christmas tip exposed to people on the street. It is becoming more common that tips never make it to the carrier because people, especially during holiday time, will drive along a street looking for envelopes on door knobs and stealing them. If possible mail the carrier their tip or present it to them personally. Remember, the grinches can never truly steal our holiday spirit.

on 11/22/2005 Shoveling a path in the winter is one of the best things you can do for the paper carrier! Another thing is to pay on time.
You will get good service doing these things.
