How to Get Involved With Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is a nonprofit Christian organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing all over the world. Volunteers and people in need work together to build decent and affordable homes, which are sold through no-interest loans.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Contact Habitat by phone at (800) 422-4828 or by e-mail.

  2. Step 2

    Donate money to HFHI or to your local Habitat affiliate.

  3. Step 3

    Participate in Habitat fund-raising events.

  4. Step 4

    Join one of Habitat's work forces, found worldwide.

  5. Step 5

    Serve on one of Habitat's committees.

on 7/8/2009 Thanks for the information, any help you can give on the job site is appreciated too. You can help feed the crew bring drinks...ETC...These houses are not donated as mentioned by previous commenter. The families work for them and then pay for them. Great program!!

on 4/6/2009 These are great tips. The only thing is I have seen people get a home donated and then they treat the house like crap. They still do not take care of it because they didn't work for it.

on 11/22/2005 Just spent a day with a volunteer work crew helping rehabilitate senior housing. We were all ages with all levels of expertise. It's rewarding to be able to help and very much appreciated. Most colleges have a HFH chapter - you don't have to be a student.
