How to Get Involved With Amnesty International

Amnesty International is an organization dedicated to advocating human rights all over the globe by pressuring governments, raising awareness and supporting victims of human rights violations. You can become a member and contribute to the cause in some or all of the following ways.

  • Telephones
  • Amnesty International Member Packet
  • Internet Access
  1. Step 1

    Call Amnesty International USA at (202) 544-0200 or look at its Web site for membership information.

  2. Step 2

    Read the organization's quarterly newspaper, "Amnesty Action."

  3. Step 3

    Join a local group to "adopt" a prisoner of conscience.

  4. Step 4

    Get involved with the emergency group, Urgent Action Network, to contact governments by mail, fax, or telephone on behalf of prisoners of conscience.

  5. Step 5

    Join networks within Amnesty International such as Women's Human Rights, Health Professionals, Children's Rights, Human Rights Educators, Legal Support or Government Action to tackle specific issues.

  6. Step 6

    Apply for Amnesty's Washington DC Internship Program to work towards including human rights as part of the national debate and to become involved in grassroots activism.

  7. Step 7

    Donate to Amnesty International - the organization's efforts are funded entirely by its supporters.
