You've made the plunge and purchased a satellite dish! Now you just need to get that antenna up so you can receive all the channels - hang on!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Weatherproof sealant
  1. Step 1

Determine which satellite carries the programs you wish to view. See onsat.com to find the satellite and its position on the arc in the sky.

  2. Step 2

Determine where to place the antenna by locating the area outside the house that will be nearest the home electronics inside the house.

  3. Step 3

Turn and face to the south. If you are south of the equator, you will need to turn and face north.

  4. Step 4

Look from east to west, following an arc that mimics the sun's path across the sky.

  5. Step 5

Observe any obstacles such as trees or buildings that might obscure the line of sight for the arc you just identified. You can use an instrument called Target:Sat to locate satellite positions before installation (See www.alineworksltd.com).

  6. Step 6

Choose a method of installation (after a suitable location has been found) that will allow the sytem to withstand the elements of year-round weather, yet still remain permanently level and rigidly mounted.

  7. Step 7

Seal all electrical outside connections with weatherproof sealant and the bury incoming receiving line below the frost level if possible.

  8. Step 8

Ground the unit and incoming receiving line following national electrical code standards.

Tips & Warnings
  • Choose a location away from utility service lines.
