How frustrating to pull your clean dishes out of the dishwasher - only to find a thick film of residue has coated your glassware. Fortunately there's an easy solution.

From Quick Guide: Dishwashers 101
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Set your cloudy glassware in a large pot or tub.

  2. Step 2

Fill the pot or tub with one part vinegar and one part warm water.

  3. Step 3

Soak the glassware for at least an hour - you may want to let it soak overnight if the problem is a tough one.

  4. Step 4

Scrub any remaining film with a plastic scrubber or brush.

  5. Step 5

    Wash the glasses by hand.

Tips & Warnings
  • For best results, always hand-wash your finest glassware.
  • The cloudiness you see on your glassware may not simply be filmy build-up - you may have etching, which is caused by too much detergent. Once glassware is etched, you can't do anything about it.

on 3/8/2008 there is a new product out that filters the water going into your dishwasher. the film or cloudy white look is caused by hard water. this filter eliminates the problem and is very affordable. you can get it at dishwasherfilter.com. i was amazed how clean my dishes came out after the first load.
