How to Eat in Las Vegas on the Cheap

There's plenty of cheap (and excellent) food to be found in Las Vegas right along with those fancy (and expensive) five-star restaurants. If you're a gambler, you might even be able to get food for free - although you'll probably pay for it with the money you're likely to lose at the slots.

    Things You'll Need

    • Budget travel guides
      • 1

Buy a budget travel guide to Las Vegas before you leave home. Pay special attention to the dining section for an overview of the budget restaurant scene.

      • 2

Search the Web for restaurant information including reviews, tips on where to save money and listings by area.

      • 3

Ask at your hotel about special offers for nearby restaurants. The staff may be able to provide you with coupons or discounts.

      • 4

Look for local publications that feature current ads, coupons or discounts for Las Vegas dining. Or, stop by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and inquire about special deals.

      • 5

Stick to buffets if you have a big appetite. Nearly all the casinos offer buffets, and some are available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are generally discounts for kids, and small children can often eat free.

      • 6

See "Get Free Food in Las Vegas" in Related eHows for information on how to obtain discounted or free meals at casinos. Note that these perks are usually available only to gamblers.

      • 7

Avoid casinos and choose from the large variety of sandwich shops, fast-food restaurants and chain diners in town. These are the cheapest way to go, although they may not be that much cheaper than a weekday buffet.

    Tips & Warnings

    • If you eat at a buffet, you can probably get along on only two meals a day. Fill up at breakfast and you're likely to be fine until dinner; or, you can eat a big lunch and skip dinner altogether.

    • Most casinos have a variety of restaurants, from casual cafes to grand (and expensive) theme restaurants or dining rooms featuring world-class chefs. Choose the cafes unless you want to splurge for a special occasion.

    • Buffet prices are best from Monday through Thursday. On weekends, prices can be substantially higher.

Don't leave coupons as tips. As a waitress myself, this is not a good tip. Although you may have good intentions, coupons don't pay for the electric bill or diapers. How would you feel if you opened your paycheck and instead of a check there were a bunch of coupons? Yes, you may use them, but in the end you still need the hard cash. If you do leave the coupons, it should be in addition to whatever monetary tip you would leave. How tacky.

Hard Rock Hotel has a restaurant called Mr. Lucky's. They have a special that is not on the menu, you just have to ask for it. I thought it was only $7.77 but I read somewhere that it is $8.95 (so just be prepared). Its called the "Lucky Gambler's Special"
