Train ivy to climb around the shape of a wire hanger for a lovely and expensive-looking arrangement - without paying the price.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Garden Shears
  • Ivy Plants In Containers
  • Wire Clothes Hangers
  • Linesman Pliers
  • Wire Cutters

Step1
Clip off the hooked part of a wire coat hanger with wire cutters, or bend it with heavy pliers until it breaks off.
Step2
Untwist the two ends of the hanger.
Step3
Round out the shape of the hanger by bending and reshaping it until you have a circle, allowing the two ends to protrude down and away from the circle.
Step4
Poke the ends into the soil in the center of a pot of ivy.
Step5
Gently wrap the vines around the circle of wire, working toward the top of the circle.
Step6
Continue to wrap as the plant grows, until all of the wire is covered.
Step7
Snip off any extra vines that may grow in the center of the pot and are unneeded. The trimmings may be placed in water to root and become new plants.

Tips & Warnings

  • Change the wire to a heart shape by simply angling out the sides and pulling the center of the circle down a bit.
