Forget dubbing cassette tapes. Now you can create your own CD's, filled with whatever you want: songs, pictures and other computer files.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 40-pin IDE cable
  • Audio cable
  • Power cable
  1. Step 1

Begin by shutting down your computer and unplugging it.

  2. Step 2

Remove the outer cover from your computer.

  3. Step 3

Set your CD-RW to the "slave" position by placing the jumper pin in the correct position in the rear of your drive.

  4. Step 4

Slide your CD-RW into an available drive bay on your computer.

  5. Step 5

Connect the 40-pin IDE cable to the rear of your CD-RW. Make sure that side of the cable with the thin colored line is connected to the right side of your CD-RW. Also, be sure NOT to use the same IDE cable to connect your CD-RW as your hard drive is connected to, this could result in severe complications with your computer.

  6. Step 6

Connect your audio cable. The end of the cable with only one connector is the end that connects to the CD-RW. One of the two connectors on the other end of the cable should be connected to your computer's sound card.

  7. Step 7

Finally, connect your power cable to the rear of your CD-RW.

  8. Step 8

Replace the cover of your computer and startup your computer.

  9. Step 9

    Install any software required software.

  10. Step 10

Start on your way to creating your very own audio CDs, as well as Cds containing pictures and other data.

on 11/22/2005 If you are unsure if your connecting the cable as a master or slave, set your jumper selections to cable select. Then hook up the power connections and audio connections and the IDE cable for the dc-Re drive or and CD/DVD drive. make sure that the IDE red striped cable side is hooked into the pin one side. Put the cover back on, and plug in the power cord for the computer. Next, if you know what you are doing, power on the computer and go into the bios menu with hitting the proper key on the keyboard. Then make sure that the computer sees the type of CD/DVD drive it is and make necessary adjustments to it and save and exit. Then wait for the computer to load all the way up and install the necessary software and you are good to go.

on 11/22/2005 If you alredy have a Cd-Rom drive connected to your secondary IDE port, buy yourself a 3 port IDE 40 pin cable. Set the Cd-Rom to slave and the CD-RW to master. Connect the first port to your CD-Rom; the second to your CD-RW and the third one to your motherboard.
