If you need more that just a yard worker to care for your property, consider hiring a trained gardener. Here are some things to consider before you bring someone on.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Plants, shrubs and trees
  • Gardening tools
  1. Step 1

Evaluate the requirements of care for your property. Is landscape maintenance such as lawn mowing sufficient or do you need someone who has some horticultural knowledge?

  2. Step 2

Decide whether you want a gardener with all the required horticultural skills and a willingness to do the labor himself or if you need to hire a gardener to oversee a staff.

  3. Step 3

Hire someone with whom you enjoy collaborating on the creation of your garden.

  4. Step 4

Hire someone to whom you feel comfortable relinquishing some control. To gain the full benefit of a gardener's knowledge, you need to trust his judgment and like his taste.

  5. Step 5

Seek out a certified Master Gardener through your local extension service, botanical garden or garden center.

  6. Step 6

Check references and view other properties your potential gardener has cared for.
