How to Beat Sephiroth in Final Fantasy VII
While Final Fantasy VII's Sephiroth may seem like a daunting foe, he can be defeated with relative ease, as long as you have the right equipment.

Mount your Golden Chocobo. If you don't have a Golden Chocobo, see "How to Breed a Golden Chocobo in Final Fantasy VII" in the Related eHows.

Travel to the village of Wutai.

Travel southeast from the village until you reach a cave surrounded by mountains.

Enter the cave and claim the mime command materia.

Equip a party member with the mime command materia.

Travel to the northeast corner of the map. There you will find a small island not seen on your mini-map.

Enter the cave on this island to claim the Knights of the Round summon materia.

Equip a different party member with the Knights of the Round materia.

Battle monsters until the mime materia levels up enough to duplicate.

Equip the character who doesn't have either Knights of the Round materia or the original mime materia with the new mime materia.

Fill the rest of your materia slots with hit point up materia until all of them have 9,999 hit points.

Travel to the bottom of the Mako Pit and enter into battle with Sephiroth.

Cast Knights of the Round with your first action.

Select the mime command for the other two characters. This step will cast Knights of the Round three times in a row and most likely kill Sephiroth.

Repeat steps 13 and 14 if Sephiroth is still alive.

Tips & Warnings
When leveling up your materia, look for weapons that are two or three times AP growth and equip them with the materia. This will speed the process.

if you want to get a golden chocobo, you can beat the ruby weapon and give the item you recieve (desert rose) to that man in kalm. he will trade it for a golden chocobo. but breeding a chocobo is much easier, cos when i fought ruby weapon( by the way ruby weapon to sephiroth, is like comparing those soldiers you fight at the beggining of the game to ultima weapon) i used every god i owned and he still killed me 14 times. i only beat him cos cloud got his limit 18 times!(gotta love omnislash!) -

This isn't about Sephiroth. I'm not sure if there is a sure way to receive it, but if you battle at the battle arena (Special Battle) enough times, you can receive another ribbon. I have heard that there is a way to receive another one in Gaea's Cliff, but I don't have answers for that.

Early in the game, in Hojo's laboratory, right after you first see Red XII, you can get into battles with 2 types of enemies. First there's the Soldier members. Equip Tifa with the steal materia and keep attempting to steal from one of them. Kill the others, but leave one alive for Tifa to steal from. Eventually you will steal the Hardedge (a powerful sword for Cloud). Also, there are these big robot things. Use the same technique and eventually you will steal a Carbon Bangle, which is much better than the mythril bangles you probably have at that point. Steal as many as needed for your party.
