How to Find Rules for Olympic Sports

Rules for sports often vary depending upon whether your sport is at the youth, high school, collegiate, professional or international level, and the Olympics are no exception. Do a little digging and you can find the rules that apply to your sport of choice.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Visit a local library and ask a librarian to direct you to sports, and specifically to books that are instructional.

  2. Step 2

    Log on to the Web and search under your sport's name, typing something in the search field like "Olympic" + "swimming" + "rules."

  3. Step 3

    Visit the United States Olympic Committee Web site at www.usoc.org, click on Sports A-Z, then select your sport and click on History or Rules.

  4. Step 4

    Go to NBC's Olympic Web site at www.nbcolympics.com and use the drop-down menu to select a sport, then drill down to About This Sport for rules, qualifying information, competition format, field and equipment notes, and a glossary of terms.

  • While the library might be a fun historical exercise, you can usually find what you need online much faster.
