How to Lighten an Image While Retaining Detail in Photoshop

Are your pictures too dark? Here's a quick fix that works great!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Photoshop
  1. Step 1

    Open your picture in Photoshop 5.5. From the Image menu, select Mode and RGB.

  2. Step 2

    Select Adjust and Curves from the Image menu. Click on the black and white bar located on the left until it is black on top.

  3. Step 3

    Make sure the Preview box is checked. Within the grid, click and drag downward on the center of the diagonal line.

  4. Step 4

    Stop dragging when the picture is lightened sufficiently. Click OK.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use selection tools to isolate a specific area you wish to lighten.
  • Save your favorite Curve settings for other pictures with similar lighting needs.
