Fashion evolves. Every fall, designers' whims and inspirations invoke a fresh and innovative twist on knits, nylons, leathers, denim and wool. The season's hottest trends are available as early as June, so grab them while you can, even if they have to sit in your closet 'til the mercury drops.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Log on to your favorite designer's Web site to see video or photo stills of the fall runway shows. It's a great opportunity to get a sense of what colors, fabrics, silhouettes and prints will shape the fall trends.
Step2
Keep up with the summer antics of the movie stars and entertainers you like. What they wear to premieres, concerts and award ceremonies might be all the rage come fall.
Step3
Flip through the July, August and September issues of your favorite fashion magazines. Although the runway shows take place earlier in the year, the rag mags are flooded with advertisements and editorial shots when the goods hit the floor and the consumers are ready to buy.
Step4
Attend free in-store trunk and fashion shows. Check the major fashion magazines for a calendar of events and talk to the special events coordinator at the stores near you for more information.
Step5
Shop early and often. Stores will start to preview fall fashions in early summer, and get periodic shipments through November.
Step6
Enlist the services of a personal shopper, a free service provided by many major department stores. Let the professionals keep you posted on the newest shipments guaranteed to make you a trend setter.

Tips & Warnings

  • Designers may set the trends, but mass merchants will give the majority of us clothes we can afford. Interpretations of what you see selling for hundreds or thousands of dollars can be picked at more moderate prices at your favorite mall store or neighborhood boutique.
  • Take advantage of pre-season sales to get the latest fall fashions at a discount.

on 11/22/2005 Some people can mix and match colors, but some people can't do that at all. So ask someone who has some fashion sense; for it'll not only help you improve, but will help others around you as well.

on 11/22/2005 Of course the usual basic colors are in - black, browns, navy, grey (all shades) and winter white. Buy lots of "pieces" in these colors, then add wine color, olive and tan. Don't forget orange and bright yellow and red - bright is in!

on 11/22/2005 Runways and magazines are packed with the sleeveless turtleneck this fall season. Why? It's versatile. Good for layering or by itself, it's one item to stock up on in a variety of styles and colors.
