How to Make Orange Granita

This refreshing summer ice dessert is sort of like sorbet, but with a more granular texture. It's easy to make at home with no special equipment. This recipe makes about 3 c. Does this Spark an idea?

  • 1/2 c. plus 2 tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 2 tbsp. Triple Sec
  • 1 1/2 c. fresh squeezed orange juice (see Product Tips)
  • Groceries
  • Citrus Reamer
  • Saucepans
  • Strainers

Instructions

      Heat the sugar and water together until the sugar is dissolved.

      Add the Triple Sec.

    • 3

      Strain the orange juice into the pan to remove any seeds or pulp.

    • 4

      Pour the mixture into a shallow container and place in the freezer.

      Freeze for 2 to 3 hours, stirring the mixture with a fork every 20 minutes or so. Break up the film that forms on the surface and crush any lumps; this creates granita's texture.

      Serve before the mixture freezes solid.
