How to Paint Your Sneakers

Look at those pristine white sneakers. They look like ... a blank canvas!

Things You'll Need

• Acrylic Paints
• Fabric Paints
• Paintbrushes
• Shoelaces
• Paper Towels
• Permanent Markers
• Paper towels

Instructions

1. Pull the laces out of both shoes.

2. Wad up some paper towels and poke them down inside to soak up any leaks and to keep the shoes' shape.

3. Water down acrylic paints to base paint the shoes. Be wild - paint each section a different color; start with red at the toe and go through the rainbow to the heel; use your imagination.

4. Let the paint dry, then add accents with 3-D fabric paints. Glossy, puffy, metallic and sparkly are among the many types.

5. Use permanent markers on the noncanvas parts, such as the rubber trim around the soles.

6. Paint the laces or add a new pair - the springy type is fun.

7. Away you go!

Tips & Warnings

• You can airbrush your sneakers, too, if you have access to the equipment. Use regular acrylic paints.

• Achieve a unique batik look by using paste resist and painting over it (see Related eHows).

• Rhinestones and beads are likely to get knocked off and aren't recommended.
