  1. Step 1

Cut two 14-inch pieces of 24-gauge, coated jewelry wire.

  2. Step 2

Choose a large bead such as a 1-inch puffy heart to use at the top of your marker.

  3. Step 3

Fold the wires in half with the cut ends together.

  4. Step 4

Poke the loops at the top of the folded wires through the bead. The loops will be at the top of your bead.

  5. Step 5

Push about 1/4 inch of each loop through the top of the bead.

  6. Step 6

Hold the bead in one hand and give the loops on top of the bead one twist.

  7. Step 7

Fold one loop to one side of the bead and the other loop to the other side of the bead.

  8. Step 8

Twist the wires at the bottom of the bead two times using round-nose pliers. Your bead should now stay in place as you work on the bottom half of your bookmark.

  9. Step 9

Twist one set of the two wires until you reach the end of the wire. Do the same with the other set.

  10. Step 10

Take the end of one twist up toward the base of your bead and overlap the wire on the bead about 1/4 inch. Do the same with the other wire.

  11. Step 11

Twist the tail of the wire around the wire at the base of the bead. Do the same with the other twist. Use your pliers if needed to secure the ends of the wires into the twist so it won't be sharp. You should now have two twisted wire loops below your bead.

  12. Step 12

Use your fingers to gently twist each of the loops into a tighter twist. This will also help harden your wire so it won't be as pliable. You should now have two twisted wires - one for each side of your page.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can just twist wire without a bead on top, braid seed bead strands or make a jig (see "How to Make Curly Wire Napkin Rings," under Related eHows, for instructions on jig making and making unusual shapes in place of the twisted wire).
  • An antiqued-gold puffy heart bead and gold wire will make a perfect bookmark for a romance reader.
  • Use safety glasses when cutting or trimming wire.
