Determine what time it is in the United States. Belgium is 1 hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time, which means it is 6 hours later in Belgium than it is on the East Coast.

  2. Step 2

Dial 00, the international access code for Belgium.

  3. Step 3

Dial 1, the country code for the United States.

  4. Step 4

Punch in the area code for the city you wish to call. Some examples include 310 for Los Angeles, 415 for San Francisco, 212 for Manhattan and 312 for Chicago.

  5. Step 5

    Dial the seven-digit phone number.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may wish to use a calling card to place international calls instead of dialing direct. If so, dial the long distance company's access code, plus the city code and the seven-digit phone number. AT&T's access code from Belgium is 0800-100-10, MCI's is 0800-100-12, and Sprint's is 0800-100-14.
