Clue is a classic 50-year-old detective game. You can get the upper hand by quickly eliminating some of the 324 possible combinations of "whodunit with what and where."

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Mark off, on your detective notepad, the cards that you hold in your hand.
Step2
Put a person's initials next to the card he shows you when you ask for a clue. For example, suppose that player A shows you the knife. Mark his initials next to that card.
Step3
Write down the initials of the person who shows another person a card when you're sure which card it is. For example, if a player asks someone for the knife and Professor Plum in the kitchen, player C shows a clue and you already know that A has the knife and B has the professor, then you know that player C has the kitchen.
Step4
Remember (or mark off) the cards that you show to each player. If a player forgets and asks you for the same card twice along with another card you hold, show her the card you previously showed her.
Step5
Keep a poker face. Be mysterious about which cards you hold and don't hold.

Tips & Warnings

  • There are six suspects, six weapons and nine locales. Eliminating the possibilities takes some luck, but mostly deduction skills.
  • Clue Jr. is great for kids ages 5 to 8. They'll use deductive reasoning to learn which neighborhood pet has hidden which toy in the clubhouse. No reading is required in this simplified version.

on 12/27/2007 Here's another good tip
Let's just say you have the library and the rope, and someone guesses for ex. that it was Mr. Green with the rope in the library, but the thing is you have 2 of those cards. So if someone hands that person a card you'll know that the card is Mr. Green, but if no one hands them the card you'll know who the killer is.

on 8/30/2007 If possable, take note of your opponents note taking! Confused? If you opponents clearly mark the bottom half of the slip after being shown a card, its safe to assume they were shown a room. Likewise, make false marks when you are shown cards to mislead other players.

on 4/18/2007 Quickest way to Win.

If you have one of each type of card, say the 3 cards you have. Nobody will be able to disprove it, so look in the envelope and shout "I WON!" Without showing anyone what the cards in the envelope are. If anyone wants to see the cards. Shuffle them all together really quick before they can.

on 7/15/2006 If playing fair isn't your game:
1. Don't show your cards to other people.
2. Lie and say you can't disprove it, even when you can.
3. Look at your player's cards without their noticing.
4. Look in the envelope when the other players are out of the room.
5. Trade cards with the player next to you.
6. Say a certain word *either room, person, or weapon* louder than the others, so another person can tell which one you have, without your having to show them the card
*Note: this only works if 2 of the four players are in it together*

on 6/30/2006 To do this, you need at least one of every kind of card, a weapon, person, and location card. Then, go to one of the locations and stay in there as long as possible. If you have Plumb, wrench and library, go to the library and say "Plumb in the library with the rope" or some other weapon and this works with whatever you need to win.
