Preventive maintenance for a television is a good investment. Once a problem occurs, you need to take it to an authorized service center. Luckily, little goes wrong with modern televisions.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Do some simple preventive maintenance since once a problem occurs, there's little likelihood you'll be able to fix the television yourself.

  2. Step 2

Keep dust and debris out of the TV's vents and speakers.

  3. Step 3

Stop moisture from becoming a problem. Make sure the television is not exposed to water or excessive moisture and that the area is well-ventilated. Place small packages of silica around the TV to absorb moisture.

  4. Step 4

Spray a cloth with window or eyeglasses cleaner to clean the television screen, and dry with a paper towel or soft cleaning cloth. Use a special electronics dusting spray for the TV set's cover.

Tips & Warnings
  • Read the owner's manual for your television.
  • Check out library books about how things work so that you get a basic understanding of the innards of a TV.
  • Reduce interference between your VCR and television by attaching a sheet of aluminum foil to the shelf between them.
  • Attempt basic repairs only if you are a really handy person. This must be approached carefully for a television under warranty, as you would not want to invalidate the manufacturer's coverage for the product.

on 11/22/2005 Avoid using a paper towel to dry the TV screen, the paper towel can scratch the screen. An old t-shirt or a non- ridged towel should be used.
