Napster is a Windows application that allows users to search for and download unlimited MP3 files for a flat, monthly fee.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Download and install the latest version of the software at Napster.com.
Step2
Start Napster for the first time and answer two questions about where you keep your music. The first question involves music you'd like to share with other Napster users on the Web. The second asks you where you want to put Napster music that you download.
Step3
Click the Search button to start looking for music.
Step4
Type the name of an artist you're looking for next to the text reading "Artist."
Step5
Alternatively, enter a song name by typing it next to the word "Title."
Step6
Click "Find it!" and scan the list of files matching your criteria.
Step7
Double-click on the name of the song you want to download and the Transfer window will open. The Transfer window shows you the status of your download. When it's done, the Status column will say "File Complete!" and you're ready to listen.
Step8
Navigate to the folder you designated as your inbox during installation.
Step9
Double-click on the name of the song you want to hear. Your MP3 player will launch, and you'll be groovin'!

Tips & Warnings

  • If you get to a section of the installation that asks if you are behind a firewall, just say yes. It means you have some security features on your network connection, and you will still be able to use Napster, but you will only be able to download from a limited number of servers.
  • Try typing "rare" in the Title field of an artist whose music you're looking for. Napster may find a track that only came out as a single, or that you may have otherwise never heard.

on 11/22/2005 Napster is pretty obsolete, and "old-news". The best way to find music, or anything else, to download (as of 06/02) is with a Gnutella client called "Bearshare". (http://www.bearshare.com to download the latest version)
