By encoding your CDs as MP3s, you can use your computer to make an endless variety of mixes, using individual songs from any album in your collection or from tunes you've downloaded from the Web. Unlike the process of making tapes from CDs or using a CD burner, making MP3 mixes, or "play lists," is as easy as drag-and-drop.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Portable MP3 Players
  1. Step 1

Create a new folder and name it something appropriate for the type of music you'll be putting in it - for example, "Floyd's Disco Attack."

  2. Step 2

Assemble from your available MP3s the list of songs you want in this particular group.

  3. Step 3

Copy those songs into your new folder.

  4. Step 4

Decide on the order in which you want the songs to play.

  5. Step 5

Rename the song you want to play first by adding a "01 - " at the beginning of the title.

  6. Step 6

This will move it to the top of the list. Add "02 - " for the second song, and so forth.

  7. Step 7

Right-click on your new music folder and click "Play in Winamp."

Tips & Warnings
  • When you get a list you like, you can save it as a play list by clicking "Save List" in the play list window. The song order will be preserved, as well as the place you stop playing each time you save.
  • Although these steps describe using the Windows-based MP3 player Winamp, instructions are quite similar for other MP3 players, including those for the Macintosh. See Related Sites for links to other MP3 players.
