How to Eat on Maui on the Cheap
Maui has great food, especially seafood. But because it's an island, things are more expensive. If you've got a few mouths to feed on your trip, look into lower-cost options that allow you to enjoy your time instead of watching your bank account.

1
Decide which meals you'd like to splurge on and which meals you'd rather keep costs down on. This may mean spending less on breakfast and lunch so you can enjoy a nice dinner.
-
2
Get out of the resort or hotel you may be staying at and drive to places like Kihei and Lahaina if you're on the west side of Maui. They're more touristy and can give you more choices for prices and types of food. If you're driving through some of the less touristy sections of the island, keep your eyes peeled for roadside fruit stands. The prices are great and the fruit is homegrown and picked fresh.

3
Go to the grocery store and buy the fixings for breakfasts and lunches. Add a cheap cooler, and you can take picnics on your day trips that will save you money on the road.
-
4
Look into planning trips with tour companies that include meals in their fees. Many of the snorkel and scuba trips include breakfast and lunch buffets in the cost.
-
5
Check out the Maui tour guide magazines, available at practically every hotel, store and restaurant on the island. They feature a lot of coupons and discounts.

Good article since Maui's food is expensive. All of the comments added even more value! Check out my article on "How to Visit Maui on the Cheap" for more ideas besides food. We went to Maui for seven days and spent less than 1800 flights included! And we had a Romantic, luxurious, blast. -

Entertainment book- if you plan on eating out consider getting an entertainment book. Try ebay for a used copy of one; I've seen them for 50% off the regular price, but make sure to find out which coupons have already been used. If you use it for 1 meal or more it'll pay to have the book. You can do a search online to find out what coupons are available in the book before you buy it to make sure that you'll get use out of it. Plan your meals around these coupons. -

If you are staying a week or more, they have a Costco at the airport. It's also great for souveniers. Also we enjoyed making sandwiches, grabbing chips & cookies and have a picnic late in the afternoon to watch the surfers & sunset. Great memories, free entertainment and cheap meal!
