If you're like many same-sex couples, you never had a commitment ceremony - for one reason or another. So what date should you celebrate as your anniversary? Here's some help deciding what date to choose.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start by considering the date you met. While this is inconsistent with the way straight couples handle anniversaries, it's an extremely popular choice among gay and lesbian couples.

  2. Step 2

Consider celebrating the anniversary of your first date. It might be the same as the day you met, or if could be months or years later.

  3. Step 3

Use the date that one of you asked the other to move in - or the date you decided to get an apartment or house together.

  4. Step 4

Go with the date you actually moved in together.

  5. Step 5

Pick a date out of the blue - this is a great choice for many couples. Brighten up a month - August is a boring month with no real holidays, so considering celebrating your anniversary then.

  6. Step 6

Celebrate more than one date. Some couples have big celebration every year on the anniversary of the date they met, and then have a quiet evening at home or a party on the anniversary of the date they moved in together.

Tips & Warnings
  • Many couples simply don't remember exactly when a certain event happened because they didn't known at the time that if would be an important date for the rest of their lives. If that's the case for you, just guess at the date and stick with your choice year after year.
