  1. Step 1

Write a letter to the editor about a same-sex marriage you attended or are planning. Or write a letter about a straight marriage you attended that infuriated you because you could never have a legally-binding ceremony like that one.

  2. Step 2

See if your local newspaper prints same-sex marriage or anniversary announcements. Send in yours and ask your friends to do the same - it will soon become clear whether the paper really does.

  3. Step 3

Send a letter to your legislator everytime something related to gay marriages happens.

  4. Step 4

Find out which of your local TV stations have public service talk shows. Many do, and these shows are always looking for individuals or panels to talk on a certain topic.

  5. Step 5

Look into the possibility of appearing on cable TV public access program and talking about the importance of same-sex marriages.

  6. Step 6

Create a protest event, then invite the media to come. A sit-in at the local office that issues marriage licenses is one idea.

  7. Step 7

Join or create a local email discussion list about the topic.

  8. Step 8

Organize and mobilize other people in any way you can.

  9. Step 9

Explain to everyone who will listen about the legal, financial, intimate and social benefits of marriage that are either denied to gay couples or forced to be swept under the carpet.
