on 10/28/2008 I bartend and this is how you make a Long Island:

* fill glass up with ice (critical, more on this at the end)
* add 1/2 oz. each of vodka, gin, rum, tequila, triple sec
* fill the rest of the glass up with 1/2 cola and 1/2 sour mix (or sweet and sour mix)
* roll it (pour it into another glass and then back into the original glass) and garnish with a lemon wedge/slice

If you want it to taste just like a tea (I prefer this) don't fill the glass all the way up in the beginning with ice. You will get the SAME AMOUNT OF LIQUOR, but you will have more room for the non-alcoholic mixers (cola and sour). Conversely, if you want it to taste strong, fill it up with ice so you don't have much room for the cola and sour. This is what you have to do for problem customers who complain even before you've made their drink, "Hey! Make it strong!"

This is one of my favorite drinks to make

on 1/4/2006 1) Substitute orange juice for sour mix.
2) Replace lemon garnish with orange slice.
You've just made a California Ice Tea -- enjoy!
