How to Repair Wood Siding

Splits in wood siding can quickly turn into eyesores, not to mention homes for bugs, mold and mildew. Take care of problems early and you'll save yourself trouble down the line.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wood Glues
  • Wood Shims
  • Wood Putty
  • Wood Putty
  • Common Nails
  • Hammers
  • Pry Bars
  • Putty Knife
  • Sandpapers
  • Putty Knife
  • Hammers
  1. Step 1

    Slide a wooden shim under the lower part of the split board, toward its end.

  2. Step 2

    Pry out any nails.

  3. Step 3

    Coat the top of the exposed board with waterproof wood glue and let it sit until it feels tacky.

  4. Step 4

    Slide the split piece back into place.

  5. Step 5

    Drive a rustproof nail above and below the split.

  6. Step 6

    Cover the nail head with a dab of wood putty and sand it smooth.

Tips & Warnings
  • Spray for insects before you repair the board.
