How to Play Dungeons and Dragons Online

Way back in 1973, Tactical Studies Rules (TSR) came out with a little game called Dungeons and Dragons. Who could have known it would catch on so well? Six years later, TSR released the first editions of the Advanced D&D books - new and improved D&D, if you will. Now you can play it on the Net and it's serious stuff.

1. Do a search for Web sites that offer online role-playing games (RPGs).

2. Consider downloading gaming software from WebRPG. It offers a whole mess of different options for online role-playing.

3. Check RPG Host and RPG Net for ongoing games.

4. Read the information at the game site carefully. Familiarize yourself with the world and any back story offered.

5. Create your character according to the rules. (See the Related eHows.) You'll want a good idea of who and what your character is before you get started.

6. Register at the Web site as a player, if required.

7. Make sure you can be free for scheduled games. It's rude to agree to play and then not show up.

• Be polite. Behave as you would in a face-to-face game.

on 11/6/2008 wow... this is dated... webRPG is long dead and the new guys on the block so far as free Virtual Gaming Tables go are OpenRPG, MapTool, and Gametable.
